A4 posters have a finished size of 210 x 297mm. When preparing your artwork, the document should include the required bleed beyond the finished edge and keep important text, logos and other essential elements safely inside the trim line.
We require 2mm bleed on every edge, giving an overall artwork size of 214 x 301mm. Any photograph, background colour or graphic intended to continue to the edge of the finished poster should extend fully into this bleed area.
We also recommend keeping important content at least 3mm inside the finished edge. This safe area helps prevent text, logos and other essential elements from appearing too close to the edge after trimming.
Artwork should be created at the correct dimensions, with images ideally supplied at 300dpi at their final printed size. Using good-quality images is especially important for posters, where photographs and graphics may form a large part of the design.
Where possible, prepare artwork using CMYK colour rather than RGB. Screens display colour using RGB, while our large-format printing equipment reproduces colour using CMYK inks. Because the two colour systems work differently, some colours may appear slightly different in print compared with how they look on screen.
Although A4 posters are generally intended for closer viewing than larger poster sizes, clear headings, readable text and a strong visual hierarchy will make the finished design easier to understand quickly.
