A3 posters have a finished size of 297 x 420mm. When preparing your artwork, the file should include the required bleed beyond the finished dimensions and keep important text, logos and other essential elements safely inside the trim line.
We require 2mm bleed on every edge, giving an overall artwork size of 301 x 424mm. Any background colour, photograph or graphic intended to continue to the finished edge should extend fully into this bleed area.
Important content should also be kept at least 3mm inside the finished edge. This recommended safe area helps prevent text, logos and other essential design elements from appearing too close to the edge after trimming.
Artwork should be created at the correct dimensions, with images ideally supplied at 300dpi at their final printed size. Because A3 is larger than A4, image quality becomes even more important, particularly where photographs or graphics occupy a large part of the design.
Where possible, prepare artwork using CMYK colour rather than RGB. Screens display colour using RGB, while our large-format printing equipment reproduces colour using CMYK inks. Because the two colour systems work differently, some colours may appear slightly different in print compared with how they look on screen.
A3 posters may be viewed from further away than smaller formats, so give particular attention to text size, contrast and visual hierarchy. A strong headline, clear imagery and well-spaced supporting information will usually be more effective than trying to fill every part of the poster.
